Travelling to the UK to Learn English

After many months of learning the English language in your home country, you have acquired many skills. But in oTravel, London, Study, Learn, Speak, English, Languagerder to be able to speak, read, and write fluently in the English language there is no substitute for travelling to the UK and learning to speak English in London. When you are fully immersed in the language, where everyone around you is speaking English, your skills will improve dramatically. All of the work that you have done to this point has prepared you for the full immersion. If you had not done all of this work, your first few weeks in London would be very difficult. You would have no idea what everyone is saying, and would be lost. But hopefully all of your hard work will pay off. You should be able to follow the conversations. You may need to ask them to repeat some words and speak a little slower, but much of what they are saying will be familiar to you.

While trying to learn English in London, you should stay with a London family. You can search online for families that offer housing to foreigners wanting to learn the English language. Make arrangements with a family before you get to London so it all goes smoothly. Talk with them about things you should do while in London. You are here not only to learn how to speak English, but to fully immerse yourself in the culture. You certainly can visit all of the sites that tourists visit, but you should also do the things that locals do. The family you are staying with can help you learn how to get around like a Londoner.

How long should you stay in London? This of course depends on the time you have available. If you only have a two week vacation, then that is how long you will stay. Any time spent in country fully immersed in the language is better than none. But to truly immerse yourself in the culture and learn the language you should try to spend at least 3 months in London, and preferably 6 months to a year. Like in anything, the more time you spend learning something, the more you will learn.

While in London you should work on all aspects of learning to speak English. Listen to conversations around you and try to understand what they are saying. Engage others in conversations in English, not only the family you are staying with, but with others that you meet around town. The more you speak English, the more comfortable you will get. Watch television, go to movies, read the paper, and read all of the signs as you are travelling around London. At the end of your visit to London, you should be much more comfortable not only speaking English, but reading and writing it as well.

You made a huge commitment to learn how to speak English, and if you spent the time before travelling to London to learn as much about speaking English as you could, then used your time wisely while in London to learn the English language, then you should by now have a good command of the English language.
